SPARTAN MEN'S SOCCER—2009
Case Falls To Denison, 3-2 , at Denison Tournament
CLEVELAND, OH (September 5, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University men's soccer team lost to Denison University, 3-2, on day one of the Denison University Tournament in Granville, Ohio.
The Spartans kicked off the scoring in the 28th minute when freshman forward Renee Silva (Hudson, OH ~ pictured) scored off a corner kick play. The Big Red answered back in the 40th minute when Ish Ghodbane scored on a free kick. Case Western regained the lead at 2-1 when junior midfielder Mikey Schmid (Oberlin, OH) connected on a pass from Silva at the 62:02. Denison tied the game just 25 seconds later on a goal by Lenny Mills and would score the game-winner at 67:46 on Ghodbane's second goal of the game.
Denison won the battle of shots, 15-14, and Case led in corner kicks, 6-5.
Sophomore goalkeper Ben Yabrow (Marietta, GA) made four saves for the Spartans.
The Spartans are in action tomorrow, September 6th, when they face Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Sunday at 3:00 p.m on day two of the Denison University Tournament.
