UAA CHAMPIONSHIPS...

CLEVELAND, OH (April 26, 2009) - Senior Obinna Nwanna (Maumee, OH-pictured) scored in four events over the weekend to lead the Case Western Reserve University men’s outdoor track and field team to a sixth place finish at the University Athletic Association [UAA] Championships at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Led by Nwanna’s team-high 23 points, the Spartans scored a team total of 58.50 points. Washington University won the team championship with 221 points, while host Carnegie Mellon placed second scoring 152 points.

On day two, Nwanna showed his impressive ability in the high jump by winning the event with a career-high 1.99m leap that was just below the NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2.02m. The highest bar ever cleared in UAA history is 2.08m. Nwanna also finished fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.63. Freshman teammate Matt Jurcak (Olmsted Falls, OH) would cross the finish line just behind Nwanna to earn sixth place in 15.64 seconds.

Yesterday, Nwanna placed second in the shot put with his career-high 14.29m throw and also grabbed seventh place in the long jump at 6.59m. Sophomore distance runner Ethan Kleinbaum (Rutherford, NJ) also scored high in day one with his fourth place finish in the 10,000 meter run in 33:33.55.
