SPARTAN TRACK AND FIELD — 2008/09

CLEVELAND, OH (March 7, 2009) - Freshman Matt Jurcak (Olmsted Falls, OH-pictured) became a UAA individual champion by winning the 55 meter hurdles in 7.84 seconds, which was one hundredth of a second ahead of junior teammate Obinna Nwanna (Maumee, OH) who crossed the finish line in 7.85 seconds. The two Spartans would bring in 18 total points combined in the event with their first and second place finishes.
The Spartans would score 43 points and finish in fifth place in the championships. Emory University would win the men's team title with 106 total points.
Nwanna would get on the scoreboard again, clearing a career-high 1.98 meters in the high jump to place second in the event. Then Nwanna would score in the shot put with a 13.76m throw that netted him a third place finish. Over the weekend, Nwanna tallied 22 of the Spartans total points.
Senior Ryan Breon would also score in multiple events, placing fourth in the shot put [13.41m] and fourth in the weight throw [14.37m] to earn eight total points. Freshman Dan Lalich (Chagrin Falls, OH) scored in the high jump with a 1.73m jump that netted him a sixth place finish.
