CLEVELAND, OH (October 31, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University cross country teams hosted the 2009 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships at the Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio this afternoon.

In the women’s race, the Spartans finished second (out of 8) with a score of 59 as Washington University claimed the UAA title with 37 points.  New York University claimed the men’s championship with a score of 41 as Case Western Reserve finished eighth (222 points).

The Spartan women, currently ranked 11th in the nation, had three runners finish in the top five.  Senior Elaine Simpson (Arlington Heights, OH-pictured) placed second (out of 81) with a time of 23:12.65, junior Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA) came in third with a time of 23:33.13 and sophomore Natalia Cabrera (Shaker Heights, OH) finished fifth at 23:41.55.

Senior Brian Cromer (Papillion, NE-pictured) led the men’s team with a 35th place (out of 80) finish with a time of 27:44.31.  Junior Ethan Kleinbaum (Rutherford, NJ) and freshman Philip Yeung (Pittsburgh, PA) rounded out Case Western Reserve’s top 50 finishes at 42nd (28:04.33) and 50th (28:19.60), respectively.

The teams will next travel to the 2009 NCAA Great Lakes Regional at Rose-Hulman on November 14.  Click here for more information.
