CLEVELAND, OH (September 19, 2009) -
The Case Western Reserve University women’s cross country team took second place out of 14 teams at the Calvin Invitational, while senior runner Elaine Simpson (Arlington Heights, IL ~ pictured) took the individual title on the women's side for the second
straight event she has run in. The men's team placed seventh.
Simpson's time of 17:50 in the 5K race was five seconds ahead of the second place competitor and a career personal best. All-American junior Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA) finished in 12th place with a time of 18:29 in her first race of the year and sophomore Natalie Cabrera (Shaker Heights, OH) took 19th with a time of 18:50. Overall, nine Spartan ladies set personal records on the day. The #14-ranked Spartans finished second to host Calvin, which is ranked #2 in the country.
Junior Tim Smith (Sandusky, OH~ pictured) led the men with a 25th place of 25:59 while junior Ethan Kleinbaum (Rutherford, NJ) was close behind with
a 29th place finish of 26:09. Ten Spartan men set personal records at the event.
The Spartans will be in action next on Saturday, October 2nd when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University for the All-Ohio Championships.
