Soccer Teams Have Three Named to All-District Academic Teams...

CLEVELAND, OH (November 2, 2009) - Case Western Reserve University soccer teams had three members, senior midfielder Brian Evans (Bartlett, TN ~ left), senior defender Will Green (Cypress, TX ~ center) and junior forward Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI ~ right) named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams. Evans and Green were each named second-team in District IV, which encompasses Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee, while Arruda was named third-team in an announcment by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Evans is a biomedical engineering major and a photography minor with a 3.67 GPA. He was named Ohio Soccer Coaches Association All-Academic in 2008 and twice earned University Athletic Association All-Academic honors. After graduation, Evans plans on pursing a Ph.D in biomedical sciences after graduation. On the field, Evans is a team captain and three-year starter. He was named All-UAA honorable mention in 2008 and has three goals and two assists this season.

Green is a chemistry major with minors in spanish, biology, and psychology and a 3.67 GPA. He has twice been named UAA All-Academic. He is president of Health Care Service Leaders on-campus and interned at the SMART Program at Baylor College of Medicine this summer. Green has started 13 games this season and was named UAA Defender of the Week on September 28th.

Arruda has a 3.57 as junior while already in her first year of dental school. In 2008, she was named UAA All-Academic and second team DIII All-Ohio Academic Honors. She led the team in goals and points in 2008 and is again in 2009 with six goals and three assists. She was named All-UAA Honorable Mention and third-team All-Ohio last season. This is likely her final year playing due to dental school obligations.

The Spartans' season finale is Saturday as both teams celebrate Senior Night against the University of Rochester. The men (7-8-3 overall, 0-5-1 UAA) start at 5:00 p.m. at Case Field., while women's (9-6-2 overall, 3-3 UAA) first touch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m
