CLEVELAND, OH (October 6, 2009) - The Case Western Reserve University fall sports teams claimed a University Athletic Association (UAA) hat trick yesterday as the Spartans had three student-athletes earn Athlete of the Week (AOW) honors. The announcement was made of the UAA website.

Junior kicker Sam Coffey (Middletown, OH) claimed football’s special teams honor, sophomore goalkeeper Anna Kennedy (Evanston, IL) was the women’s soccer defensive honoree and senior libero Andrea Lamont (Huntington Beach, CA) was the Co-AOW in women’s volleyball.

The No. 10-ranked Spartan football team is off to a 4-0 (0-0 UAA) start, the volleyball team is off to it's best start in over two decades (14-3, 2-1 UAA) and the women's soccer team is 5-3-2 overall and 1-0 in the UAA.nice

Coffey converted a 37-yard field goal and went five-of-five on extra points in a 38-13 win over Denison University Saturday.  Coffey kicked off seven times for an average of 58 yards and one touchback.

Kennedy did not allow a goal in two games this week.  Kennedy faced six shots and made two saves in a 0-0 tie against No. 4-regionally ranked The College of Wooster and faced 14 shots and made five saves in a 1-0 win against Brandeis University.  The Brandeis win was the Spartans first UAA win in 19 games (NYU, 10-3-06).

Lamont led the Spartans at the UAA’s first Round Robin of the season.  Lamont recorded 33 digs and four aces in a five-set win over Rochester, 15 digs in a four-set victory against Brandeis and 20 digs in a three-set loss to Washington.  The 33 digs was the highest total for the Spartans this season.
