VOLLEYBALL'S MCCUTCHAN NAMED NAMED ALL-UAA SECOND TEAM...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 12, 2008) - Case Western Reserve University freshman middle hitter Tricia McCutchan (Hamilton, OH) had an outstanding rookie season, and the University Athletic Association took notice, naming her to the All-UAA Second Team. The announcement was made on the league website.
McCutchan posted 24 kills in the Spartans first match of the season against Mount Union and never looked back, leading the team in kills (488) and blocks (121) for the season. Those totals average out to over four kills and one block per set played.
“Teams were already keying in on her early in the season,” head volleyball coach Karen Farrell explained. “Tricia gives tremendous effort and is very consistent from match to match. And she is already extremely intelligent as a volleyball player and she is only getting started.”
The freshman stepped in immediately and became the focal point of the offense, playing a large roll in the Spartans 20-win season. Her size and ability to dominate the middle helped the team improve their blocking and team defense, while also creating a more attack-oriented offense. Case placed fifth at the UAA Championships last week, its best finish in that event since 2003.
“She has set an extremely high bar for herself and her future performances,” said Farrell. “But she will only continue to get smarter and more physically dominant as time goes on. I think bigger and better things are in the future for her, and this has been a phenomenal start to her college career.
