THREE BASEBALL PLAYERS NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM...
CLEVELAND, OH (May 7, 2009) - The University Athletic Association handed out its 2009 baseball honors and three Case Western Reserve University student-athletes were recognized. The announcement was made on the UAA website.
Spartan junior centerfielder Clay Hurley (Connellsville, PA) and sophomore catcher/first baseman Chad Mullins (Fredericksburg, OH-pictured) were named to the All-Association first team while sophomore catcher Steve Bills (Greensburg, PA) earned second team honors.
Mullins led the team and finished third in the UAA in hitting this season with a .388 average. He led the UAA in hits with 64 and finished fourth in RBI with 32. Mullins led the team in runs scored with 35 and homeruns with four. He posted a .988 fielding percentage and led the team in put outs with 312.
Hurley hit .326 [43 hits, 22 runs scored and 20 RBI] this season and posted a .975 fielding percentage, only committing two errors in 43 games. Bills was named to the UAA All-Tournament Team after hitting two grand slams at the UAA Championships in Florida in early March. He finished the year with a .984 fielding percentage, including 154 put outs.
