soccer and cross country teams receive academic honors...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 2, 2009) - The men’s and women’s soccer teams had eight total student-athletes chosen to the OCSA Academic All-Ohio Team, while the cross country teams had seven receive USTFCCCA Division III Men's and Women's XC Scholar Athletes of the Year honors.
The Ohio Coaches Soccer Association made senior’s Kevin Bigart (Naperville, OH) and Zeyad Schwen (Cincinnati, OH) First Team All-Ohio selections. Receiving Second Team honors were senior’s Konrad Karasek (Prospect Heights, IL-pictured) and RJ French (Zionsville, IN), as well as junior Brian Evans (Bartlett, TN). Senior Justin Steggerda (Johnston, IA) was named to the Third Team.
On the women’s side, sophomore’s Amy Baumann (Dublin, OH) and Ana Arruda (Ann Arbor, MI) were both selected to the Second Team.
The cross country teams were also acknowledged this week, as five woman and two men were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association with Scholar Athletes of the Year awards.
For the women, senior’s Britta Kumley (Solon, OH) and Laura Von Eckartsberg (Dublin, OH), junior’s Elaine Simpson (Arlington Heights, IL) and Coleen Heffernan (Columbus, OH) and sophomore Andrea Fischione (Export, PA) were selected. Senior’s Austin Schmidt (Lexington, OH) and Mike Petro (Cincinnati, OH) were given the nod on the men’s side.
