CLEVELAND, OH (November 30, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University senior linebacker Tom Brew's postseason accolades continue to tally up. His most recent award is second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America as announced by the College Sports Information Director's of America.
He earned eligibility for the national team by earlier being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team.
For the second consecutive year (2006 & 2007), Brew has been named a Draddy Trophy [Academic Heisman all divisions] semifinalist, a Gagliardi Trophy finalist [Player of the Year Division III] and the University Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year. Brew boasts a 3.34 grade point average as a public health major at Case Western Reserve. He will finish his undergraduate degree this semester.
Brew guided the Spartan football team to its best season in modern era history. Fifteenth-ranked Case Western Reserve finished the regular season undefeated at 10-0, posting the most wins in school history. The team also won its first outright UAA Championship and made it first NCAA playoff appearance. The Spartans went 1-1 in the postseason, making it to the final 16.
What a season and what a player, said Head Coach Greg Debeljak, who is currently in the running for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award . I'm not sure what else I can say about Tom that I haven't already. He has been an exceptional student-athlete.
