SPORTS INFORMATION — 2007

For football, seniors Tom Brew (Mentor, OH), John Tiemeir (Cincinnati, OH) and Mike Tuertscher (Cincinnati, OH) earned UAA Defensive AOW honors, while sophomore quarterback Dan Whalen (Willoughby, OH) earned Offensive AOW honors and freshman kicker Sam Coffey (Middletown, OH) earned Special Teams AOW honors after the team’s second round playoff loss to Wabash College on Nov. 24.

Senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) earned Co-AOW for women’s basketball after her solid performance over the weekend at the Thomas More Shootout, which the Spartans went 1-1.

Brew finished with 16 tackles (4 solo, 12 assisted) in his final game for the Spartans, while Tiemeir had a game-high 18 tackles (1 solo, 17 assisted) in the final game of his collegiate career. Tuertscher finished the game with 10 tackles, all assisted, to earn Defensive AOW honors for the second week in-a-row.

Whalen finished with 303 yards through the air and three touchdowns in the team’s loss on Nov. 24 to earn Offensive AOW honors for the fourth time this season, while Coffey earned Special Teams AOW honors for the sixth time this season after drilling a 38-yard field goal, his sixth field goal of 30+ yards this season.

Horton had a strong performance in the Spartans’ 70-63 loss to DePauw on Nov. 24, scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. A day later, Horton recorded another double-double in the team’s 67-53 victory over Centre, as she scored 12 points to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds.
