ERB NAMED GREAT LAKES RUNNER OF THE YEAR...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 19, 2007) - Case Western Reserve University senior women's cross country runner Esther Erb (Richmond, VA) has been named the Great Lakes Region Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association .
Erb led Case Western Reserve to its highest finish - men or women - in modern era history [men were 7th in 1986] at the 2007 NCAA Championships Saturday (Nov. 17) in Minnesota. The Spartans finished sixth overall and Erb earned All-America status for the second consecutive year with a 27th-place individual finish at 22:02 [6k].
Prior to Saturday, Erb won six consecutive races, including a victory at the Great Lakes Regional Championships Nov. 10 where she finished with a time of 21:13 [6k]. She led the Spartans to a second-place finish at the Great Lakes Regional, earning herself and the team a spot at the NCAAs.
Erb's best time of the season came at the Calvin College Invitational Sept. 15 when she finished with a time of 17:22.00 [5k], winning the title among a field of 135 runners. She won the school's first University Athletic Association title in women's cross country Oct. 27.
