ERB FIRST FEMALE TO CLAIM UAA TRIPLE CROWN...
CLEVELAND, OH (April 25, 2008) - Case Western Reserve University senior runner Esther Erb (Richmond, VA) has been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer [running events] in outdoor track and field. The announcement was made on the UAA website.
Erb, a four-time All-American, becomes the first female in UAA history to achieve the Triple Crown, as she earned the same honor in indoor track and field as well as the individual title in women's cross country.
It was one of my goals this year along with achieving All-America status in all three seasons, Erb said. I am extremely honored and look forward to completing my goals at [outdoor] nationals.
At the 2008 UAA Outdoor Track Championships in Chicago, Erb took home titles in both the 1,500 and 5,000-meter run. Her time of 17:22.20 in the 5,000-meter run is a UAA record, a track record at the University of Chicago, and an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.
Earlier this season at the Disney Invite in Orlando, Fla. Erb ran an NCAA Division III automatic qualifying time of 35:45.91 to take home the title in the 10,000-meter run. Erb has finished first in all four races she has competed in this spring.
She will try for an automatic qualifying time in the 5,000-meter run at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays this weekend in Hillsdale, Mich.
