HORTON ENDS CAREER WITH 1,000 POINTS AND UAA HONOR...
CLEVELAND, OH (March 4, 2008) - Case Western Reserve University senior forward Ashley Horton (Akron, OH) has been named the University Athletic Association Co-Athlete of the Week this week for women's basketball. The announcement was made today on the UAA website .
Horton completed her collegiate career with her 12th “double-double” (33rd career) of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and scored her 1,000th career point with 4.8 seconds remaining in the game in a 71-66 triumph over Emory University in the UAA season finale for both teams. Horton connected on nine of 22 field goals and hit six of eight shots from the free-throw line, including a pair in the final seconds to seal the win.
She finishes her career as one of the top post-players in Spartan women's basketball history, as her 1,001 career-points rank eighth all-time and her 845 career-rebounds rank second all-time. Horton's 263 rebounds this season are the third most in a single-season in Case Western Reserve basketball history.
