WOMEN READY FOR SPRING OPENER...
CLEVELAND, OH (February 21, 2008) - Under interim head coach Dan Palmer, the Case Western Reserve University women’s tennis team is ready to start the spring season, and will host Robert Morris University on Feb. 22 at 3:00 p.m.
The Spartans have a young team this spring, with three freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior making up the squad.
“They are working hard and are enthusiastic,” said Palmer. “We are looking forward to playing this Friday.
The leading veteran is junior Marta Worwag (Cleveland, OH-pictured), who finished with a team-high 15 wins last season. Worwag finished 9-6 in singles competition and added six wins in doubles play Spartans.
Sophomore Kristen Ko (Cincinnati, OH) will also be back for the Spartans. She finished with 12 victories last season, earning six wins in both singles and doubles competition.
“Kristen and Marta will be our No. 1 and No. 2 single and No. 1 doubles players,” explained Palmer. “They are the heart and soul of the team. They work very hard and are very competitive.”
Freshmen on this year’s squad include Tina Chen (Naperville, IL), Sin Chu (Columbus, OH), Emily Hoffman (Copley, OH), and sophomore Jennifer Clever (Ashland, OH) will also look to improve on her fall season.
In March, the Spartans will host John Carroll University on the 19th before facing Allegheny College on the 25th. The team will then host Ohio Wesleyan University and Tiffin University on April 5-7 before heading to St. Louis, Mo. on April 17-20 for the University Athletic Association Championships, hosted by Washington University.
