CASE 1, ROCHESTER 1 (2OT)...
CLEVELAND, OH (November 3, 2007) - The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team (6-11-1) battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime in their season finale against the University of Rochester (10-4-3) this evening at Case Field.
Bridget Mason (pictured) couldn't have asked for a better way to end her collegiate career, as the Chicago native scored her first goal of the season in the 72nd minute to break a streak of six matches in which the team did not score a goal and to tie the game at 1-1. On the year, Mason has played all but four minutes.
The Yellowjackets got an early first half goal from Bridget Varin in the 18th minute to give Rochester a 1-0 advantage.
The Spartans took 14 shots (10 on goal) on the evening, while the Yellowjackets shot 20 times (16 on goal).
Junior goalkeeper Kirsten McClain (Rochester, NY) had a good game between the posts, as she saved 15 shots on the night. McClain ends the season third in the UAA in saves, having saved 63 this season.
The Spartans finish the season with a better record than last year's squad and have many of their key contributors coming back for next season. Senior's Kelly Goris (Commerce Twp., MI) and Katie Skillin (Overland Park, KS)
also played their final game for the Spartans this evening.
