CASE 4, MOUNT UNION 0...
CLEVELAND, OH (September 11, 2007) -
The Case Western Reserve University women's soccer team was running on all cylinders this evening, as their high-powered offense notched a season-best four goals to give the Spartans a 4-0 victory over the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College.
The team totaled 19 shots on the night, and managed to get four of them past Mount Union goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mallernee for the team's second win of the season.
Freshman Amy Bishara (Toledo, OH) was the first Spartan to get in on the action, as she notched her second goal of the season to give Case the 1-0 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the first half. Jen Soo Hoo (Berkley Heights, NJ) earned the assist on the goal, her first of the season.
The team wasn't done yet, as junior Caroline Garber (Cincinnati, OH – pictured) scored her first goal of the season to put the Spartans the 2-0 just 28 seconds after Bishara's goal. Garber struck again in the second half, as she scored her second goal of the night to extend the Case lead.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Yule (Green Oaks, IL) also scored a goal in the second half to cap off the victory. Yule leads the team with three goals on the year.
The Spartan defense was spectacular in the victory, holding the Purple Raiders to seven shots (six on goal) the entire contest. Junior Kirsten McClain (Rochester, NY), junior Nikki Frankenstein (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Katie Green (Mt. Vernon, OH) all pitched in on the shutout, the team's second of the season.
The team plays again on Thursday as they travel to Erie, PA to take on the Lions of Penn State-Behrend College at 5:00 p.m.
