WOMEN'S SOCCER — 2005

CLEVELAND, OH (November 5, 2005) - The Case Western Reserve women's soccer team battled to the very end as they lost 1-0 to the #11 ranked University of Rochester Yellow Jackets at Case Field. The Case Spartans finish the season with a 6-10-2 overall record and a 2-5 mark in the UAA. With the victory, Rochester wins the UAA and earns a berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow Jackets finish the regular season 15-1-2 and 6-0-1 in the UAA.

Rochester scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 15 seconds into the game. Junior Mary Walsh (Honeoye Falls, NY) pounced on an opportunity and booted the ball into the back of the net to put the Yellow Jackets on top 1-0. Case had a solid scoring chance with about five minutes to go in the game. The Spartans' Cara Stepanczuk (Munster, IN) drilled a shot at the Rochester goal from 15 yards out to have the Yellow Jackets' goalkeeper Adrianne Hulchanski (Camillus, NY) make a clutch game-saving stop.

The game marks the end of the season for the Spartans and the end of the collegiate careers for Case seniors Lauren Gaeta (Parkton, MD), Beth Stepanczuk (Munster, IN), and Cara Stepanczuk. Gaeta made eight saves in the contest while the Stepanczuk sisters recorded two shots apiece.
