WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY—2007

CLEVELAND, OH (September 15, 2007) - The 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s cross country team finished second (out of 11) at the 5,000-meter Calvin College Invitational in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Second ranked Calvin College won the race with 36 points, followed closely by Case Western Reserve with 42 points.

Senior Esther Erb (Richmond, VA-pictured) extended her streak of consecutive top-three finishes to nine races as she finished first overall with a time of 17:22. Erb beat out an extremely competitive field and paced Case with a personal-best time and second win of her Spartan career.

Four other Spartan women finished in the top 15. Freshman Justine Jeroski (Murrysville, PA) finished seventh overall with a time of 18:07, freshman Andrea Fischione (Export, PA) finished 10th overall with a time of 18:30, junior Britta Kumley (Solon, OH) took 11th place with a time of 18:32 and junior Kristin Bowhers (Rochester, NY) made great improvements to finish 13th with a time of 18:36.

“I feel really good about this race, both the men and woman raced very hard,” said Lanese. “Some of the woman faded towards the end, but for the most part they really picked it up in the last mile. I’m extremely pleased.”

The Spartans travel to the College of Wooster Invitational next Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
