ALL-OHIO CHAMPIONSHIPS...
CLEVELAND, OH (October 6, 2006) -
The 20th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women’s cross country team claimed the Division III title at the Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships (5k) this afternoon at Ohio Wesleyan University out of a field of 17 teams. The Spartans had four runners finish in the top ten, scoring 39 points, 60 better than their nearest competitor. Case finished fourth at the All-Ohio meet a year ago.
Spartan junior Esther Erb (Richmond, VA-pictured) finished second out of 123 runners with a time of 18:42.3, just over 40 seconds (18:11.5) behind race winner Katie Wieferich from the College of Wooster. Case sophomore Kristen Bowhers (Rochester, NY) claimed the third spot with a time of 18:57.7, and seniors Karyn Wheeler (Worthington, OH) and Stephanie Nothelle (Porter, IN) finished seventh (19:26.3) and eighth (19:27.5), respectively.
The Spartans are off until October 28 when they will participate in the 2006 University Athletic Association Championships at Washington University in St. Louis.
