SPARTAN VOLLEYBALL —2007

CLEVELAND, OH (October 14th, 2007) -The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team defeated NYU 3-1 (31-29, 25-30, 30-24, 30-19) in their third match of the Second 2007 University Athletic Association Round Robin Tournament in Cleveland, OH.

The Spartans shoot up to 12-13 (3-3 UAA) on the season as the Violets fall back to .500 with a record of 14-14 (3-3).

Case’s attack was relentless all match long, as the versatile Spartans dug themselves out of a whole in game-one. Trailing 29-27, Case went on a huge 4-0 run to cap off an amazing come back, thus setting the tone for the rest of the series.

Star Spartan efforts were made by sophomore middle blocker S.K. Piper (Portage, MI) who nailed 15 kills, knocked in two aces and had one solo block and three block assists. Freshman outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH-pictured) has turned into a double-double machine, nailing 14 kills and 20 digs with two huge aces.

Head Coach Karen Farrell was extremely pleased with her teams’ efforts against NYU.

“We really executed in all areas of the game today,” emphasized Farrell. “We had players playing different positions and everyone played their role to the best of their ability, I’m very thrilled.”

Case plays their final Round Robin Tournament match at 2:00 p.m. versus the Brandeis Judges in the Veale Center.
