SPARTAN VOLLEYBALL —2007


CLEVELAND, OH (September 22, 2007)-The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team was defeated by Allegheny College 3-2 (28-30, 30-22, 31-33, 30-24, 15-9) in the final series of the Allegheny College Tri-Match in Allegheny, Pennsylvania.

The Spartans record drops to 7-8 while the Gators rise to 9-5.

Attacking heavily for the Spartans was sophomore middle blocker S.K. Piper (Portage, MI-pictured) who nailed a double-double, knocking down 23 kills and saving 23 digs. Junior middle hitter Colleen Martin (Rocky River, OH) knocked a fantastic 16 kills into Gator territory. Freshman outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH) also contributed a double-double, as she pulverized 15 kills and saved a game high 35 digs. Sophomore libero Andrea Lamont (Columbia, MD) contributed heavily with 29 digs.

Case dropped both matches of the Tri-Match series, but still has won seven of their last twelve contests after starting the season 0-3. Six more Spartan wins will break last seasons win mark of twelve victories.

Case is leading the entire University Athletic Association in digs per game with 22.76, proving they can play great defense. The Spartans have several student-athletes who rank very well statistically in the (UAA) conference. Piper [S.K] is third in the (UAA) with 4.05 kills per game and Lamont [Andrea] leads the (UAA) in digs with 6.11 per game.

The Spartans travel to John Carroll University for a non-conference regular season match next Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
