SPARTAN VOLLEYBALL —2007


CLEVELAND, OH (September 14, 2007)- The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team won match two of the Case Tournament in shut out fashion, 3-0 (30-27, 33-31, 30-25) over John Carroll University at the Veale Center.

Case has won three straight matches and is halfway to last seasons win total of twelve games. The Spartans improve their record to 6-5 while the Blue Streaks fall to 6-5.

Leading Case was freshman outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH) with 15 kills and 12 digs along with a huge .500 hit percentage. Sophomore middle blocker S.K. Piper (Portage, MI) and junior outside hitter Elise Snell (Valparaiso, IN) comblined for 23 kills, and Junior setter Julie Schaefer (Independence, OH) dished out a game high 39 assists.

Head coach Karen Farrell was ecstatic after day one of the tournament.

“We played incredible volleyball today, incredible defense and the blocking was terrific, said Farrell. “The team showed mental toughness at the end of every single game, when in the past those are games we would’ve lost.”

The Spartans start day two of the Case Tournament tomorrow against Ohio Dominican University at 9:30 a.m. in Horsburgh Gym at the Veale Center.
