CLEVELAND, OH (September 12, 2007) -
The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team defeated Baldwin Wallace College 3-2 (30-25, 25-30, 18-30, 30-25, and 15-13) in a non-conference match at the Veale Center.
The resilient Spartans trailed two games to one, but came back to defeat a solid Baldwin Wallace team for the first time in five years. With the victory Case climbs to 4-5 as the Yellow Jackets fall to 5-4.
The Spartans were led by junior setter Julie Schaefer’s (Independence, OH) second triple double of the season. Julie had 10 kills, 44 assists and 19 digs. Senior middle blocker Julianna Burrows (Gross Pointe Farm, MI) had 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Beth Karpinski (Avon Lake, OH) totaled 18 kills and 21 digs.
“This is a huge victory for the entire team and program," said Head Coach Karen Farrell. "It’s a big step for us and a turning point to our season.”
The Spartans are hosting the Case Volleyball Tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Veale Center. Participating schools include; John Carroll University, Ursuline College, Urbana University, Lake Erie College, Notre Dame College, Ohio Dominican University and Roberts Wesleyan University.
