MEN'S SOCCER — 2007

CLEVELAND, OH (September 29, 2007) - For the first time since Oct. 13, 2006, the Case Western Reserve men's soccer team (8-1) lost a match, as this afternoon, they fell to the No. 12 ranked Violets of New York University (8-1-1), 1-0 in New York.

The loss ended a 14-game regular season win streak for the Spartans, dating back to Oct. 13 of last year, when the team lost 2-0 to Washington University.

The Spartans were held scoreless for the first time all season in the match, taking 11 shots (eight on goal), but unable to get a ball past NYU goalkeeper Chris Wright.

Jeritt Thayer scored the lone goal of the game, as he was able to get one past senior goalkeeper Chad Skidmore (Centerville, OH – pictured) in the 17th minute of the game. Skidmore saved five shots on the afternoon and allowed only his fourth goal of the season in the loss.

The Spartans lost to the Violets by the same score last season on Oct. 8 at Case Field.

The team will head back to Cleveland for a match against Notre Dame College on Oct. 2 at Case Field. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
