CLEVELAND, OH (October 27, 2006) -
Case Western Reserve University sophomore forward Kevin Bigart-pictured (Naperville, IL) led the Spartans with a goal and an assist as they defeated Carnegie Mellon University, 2-0, tonight in the rain in Pittsburgh, PA.
After a scoreless first half, Bigart dropped a long pass behind a Carnegie Mellon (10-4, 3-2 UAA) defender, and sophomore midfielder Justin Steggerda (Johnston, IA) beat their goalkeeper to give Case a 1-0 advantage at the 57:46 mark.
Less than a minute later (58:35), Bigart took a pass from sophomore forward RJ French (Zionsville, IN) and one-touched it into the back of the net for his ninth goal of the year (2-0, Case). The victory was the Spartans' (14-2-1, 3-2 UAA) fourth straight.
Sophomore goalkeeper Konrad Karasek (Prospect Hts., IL) shutout the Tartans, making five saves in 90 minutes. Karasek improved to 7-0 on the season, and the shutout was Case’s 11th of the year.
The Spartans will travel to Atlanta tomorrow and face Emory University on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
