MEN'S SOCCER—2005

CLEVELAND, OH (October 28, 2005) - The Case Western Reserve men's soccer team lost a hard-fought game 2-1 to the #19 ranked Carnegie Mellon Tartans this afternoon. With the loss, Case dropped to 8-7-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the UAA. The Tartans claimed their fourth UAA victory and move to 4-1 in the conference and 12-1-1 overall.

Carnegie Mellon scored the first goal of the match as Jonathan Browne made good on a breakaway pass from Daniel Brackley in the 18th minute. The Spartans didn't let that bother them and they bounced back to tie the game in the 25th minute of action. Freshman RJ French (Zionsville, IN) knocked a header past the Tartan keeper off a free kick from Jarrod Predina (Seven Hills, OH). It was French's eighth goal of his rookie season.

The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until the 80th minute. Carnegie Mellon's Sean Filipovitz got ahold of the rebound off a corner kick and drove it past Case goalkeeper Chad Skidmore (Centerville, OH) from 20 yards out. Skidmore played stellar in goal for the Spartans making four saves including a penalty kick shot early in the second half from Filipovitz.

Next up for the Spartans is a meeting with Emory University on Sunday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Case Field.
