MEN'S SOCCER—2005

CLEVELAND, OH (October 22, 2005) - Case registered two goals apiece from RJ French (Zionsville, IN) and Jarrod Predina (Seven Hills, OH) as the Spartans beat Myers University 5-0 at Case Field this evening. Case dominated the match as they improved to 8-6-2 with Myers falling to 2-7. Case out-shot the Mustangs 37-5 in the game, with a 28-3 advantage in the second half.

It didn't take long for Case to get onto the scoreboard as the Spartans jumped out to a 1-0 at the 4:41 mark. Predina took advantage of a loose ball off a corner kick and drilled it into the bottom left corner for his first goal of the match. In the 45th minute, Justin Steggerda (Johnston, IA) scored his third goal of the season off a cross from Neal Duryea (Cheswick, PA) to put Case up 2-0 at halftime.

The second half continued with more of the same for the Spartans. Just two minutes into the half, Kyle Ferlic (Bethel Park, PA) made a perfect pass to RJ French sprinting down the middle of the field. French beat the Myers goalkeeper to the ball, flicked it over his head, and deposited his sixth goal of the season into the back of the net. Predina notched his second goal of the contest and fourth of the year off a pass from Jeremy Winkler (Rochester Hills, MI).

French scored his second goal in the 67th minute off a cross from Ronan Cahill (Hixson, TN). Winkler then scored his first goal of the season on a breakaway, as he beat the Mustang keeper to make the score 6-0. Myers however ended the shutout with a Lee Allen goal in the 74th minute. Case continued the scoring when Thatcher Houldin (Huntingdon, PA) scored the first goal of his career as he pounded home the rebound from Samon Tavakoli's (Houston, TX) shot. Finally, Randy Birkenmeier (St. Louis, MO) closed out the scoring as he also recorded the first goal of his career to make the final 8-1.

Case will close out the season with three UAA games, all of which are at Case Field. The Spartans will host Carnegie Mellon on Friday, October 28 at 4:30 and Emory University on Sunday, October 30 at 11:00 a.m.
