MEN'S SOCCER—2005

CLEVELAND, 0H (October 20, 2005) - Spartan freshmen Kevin Bigart (Naperville, IL) and RJ French (Zionsville, IN) each scored a goal and assisted on another as Case defeated Penn State-Behrend 2-1 at Case Field. The Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak with the win and improved to 7-6-2 on the year. Meanwhile Case ended the Lions' streak of four straight wins with Behrend moving to 11-3-1 overall.

In the 38th minute of the first half, Bigart vaulted the Spartans on top 1-0 as he found the back of the net off an assist from French. It was Bigart's team-leading ninth goal of the season while French recorded his second assist on the year. Case held the 1-0 lead until Marco Loffreda-Mancinelli (Pittsburgh, PA) connected on a pass from Mark Cipriani (Erie, PA) in the 78th minute.

With the game knotted at 1-1 and the Case lead lost, it looked like the momentum might change in the Lions' favor. However, in the 80th minute, French knocked home a corner kick from Bigart to notch what proved to be the game-winning goal. Case goalkeeper Konrad Karasek (Prospect Heights, IL), appearing in just his third game on the season, came up big in the late-going. Karasek made five tough saves in the final 10 minutes of action to preserve the Spartan victory. He finished the game with seven saves in his 90 minutes of work.

Case will be at home to close out the season and next face Myers University at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
