CASE 3, THIEL 1...
CLEVELAND, OH (September 21, 2005) - The Case Western Reserve men's soccer team recorded their fourth victory of the season as they defeated the Thiel Tomcats 3-1 under the lights at Case Field. The Spartans now stand at 4-2-1 on the season while Thiel drops to 1-4 overall.
The Spartans tallied two goals in the first half to lead 2-1 at halftime. Senior Jarrod Predina (Seven Hills, OH), notched the first Case goal, also his first of the year, off a free kick in the 22nd minute. Just seconds after the Spartan goal, Dorran Coley leveled the score at 1-1 on a header from Elliot Wreh-Wilson. Case freshman Kyle Ferlic (Bethel Park, PA) then broke the tie with his second goal of the year, and second in the last two games. Ferlic found the back of the net off an assist from Matt Shaughnessy (Mokena, IL).
In the second half, Case freshman Kevin Bigart (Naperville, IL) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to make the score 3-1. Bigart knocked in a rebound in front of the Tomcats' goal with Justin Steggerda (Johnston, IA) and Noah Marciniak (Dayton, OH) receiving the assists. Goalkeeping duties for the Spartans were performed by Chad Skidmore (Centerville, OH) in the first half and Justin Elszasz (Perry, OH) in the second period.
Case will leave the friendly confines of Case Field, where they are 3-0 on the season, to travel to Hanover, IN to take on Hanover College in a 1:00 p.m. match this Saturday.
