MEN'S SOCCER — 2005

CLEVELAND, OH (September 1, 2005) - Case Western Reserve opened both the 2005 season and their new home field with a bang as the Spartans defeated Lake Erie College (0-1) 4-1 this afternoon. The game marked the first home match played in the new state of the art Case Stadium at the Village at 115.

Junior Scott Christensen (Rochester, NY) got Case on the scoreboard first when he knocked home the rebound off a Robert Niccoli (Brecksville, OH) free kick. It was the lone goal of the first period as the Spartans out-shot the Storm 13-2.

The Spartans came out roaring in the second half and surged to a commanding 4-0 lead behind goals from three freshmen. Scoring their first collegiate goals for Case were Kyle Ferlic (Bethel Park, PA), RJ French (Zionsville, IN), and Nate Hoffman (Wilmington, DE). Lake Erie scored their only goal in 74th minute on a shot by Ricky Nerone.

Chad Skidmore (Centerville, OH) started in goal for Case and played all 90 minutes. The sophomore made two saves in preserving the victory. Next up for the Spartans, now 1-0 in the early going, is a September 3rd match at the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford at 2:00 p.m.
