URSINUS 16, CASE 7...
CLEVELAND, OH (October 7, 2006) -
Case Western Reserve University dropped their second straight game this afternoon as they fell to visiting Ursinus College, 16-7, at Case Field. The Spartans fell to 3-2 on the season while the Bears improve to 5-0. Case will host Carnegie Mellon University in their homecoming game this Saturday (Oct. 14) at 12:00 p.m.
The only points scored in the first half came with 6:21 left in the first quarter. Senior running back James Rosenbury (Draper, UT-pictured) finished off a 16 play, 77-yard drive, with a five-yard touchdown run to put Case up 7-0. Rosenbury finished the game with 13 carries for 50 yards. The Spartans beat Ursinus in the air in the first half, 71 yards to 32, but the Bears out ran them, 67 yards to 45, as Case led 7-0 at the half.
Ursinus would score their first points of the game with 7:39 left in the third quarter. Senior quarterback Ted Wallingford threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Josh Hannum, but the Bears missed the point after (7-6 Case). Wallingford finished the game 11-of-25 for 124 yards and Hannum caught five passes for 72 yards. Ursinus’ next two scores would come via Case miscues. Bears freshman kicker Justin Beres hit a 25-yard field goal at the beginning (12:57) of the fourth after his team blocked a punt at the Case 32-yard line (9-7 Ursinus). Then at 11:53, Ursinus junior defensive back Chris Frank fell on the ball in the endzone (16-7 Ursinus) after a Case errant snap inside their 25-yard line.
The Bears completed 10-of-19 third down conversions in the game compared and the Spartans only 4-of-16.
Case junior defensive back John Tiemeier (Cincinnati, OH) finished with a game high 16 tackles (5 solo, 11 assists). Senior linebacker Tom Brew (Mentor, OH) and junior linebacker Mike Tuertscher (Cincinnati, OH) had 12 and 10 respectively. Offensively, Case senior wide receiver Joe Brenner (Lititz, PA) had five catches for 52 yards.
