SPARTANS FALL IN FINAL GAME...
CHICAGO, IL - Case Western Reserve University senior running back Brandon McDowell (Cleveland, OH) ran the ball 16 times for 90 yards and one touchdown as the Spartans (5-5, 0-4) lost their season finale 13-27 at the University of Chicago (2-7, 1-3) this afternoon.
The Spartans and Maroons were deadlocked 13-13 at the half on a touchdown and two field goals a piece. Chicago went on to score a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarter to hand Case its fourth straight loss in the University Athletic Association this season.
Spartan senior quarterback Eli Grant (Brooklyn, NY), who missed the last two games with an injury, completed 12 of 22 passes for 126 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Jason Cellura (Euclid, OH), who filled in for Grant at quarterback the last two weeks, caught five passes for 86 yards. Freshman kicker Joseph Brenner (Litiz, PA) hit 36 and 26-yard fields. On defense, senior defensive back Mike Depaulo (Sagmore Hills, OH) had nine total tackles.
Chicago was led by running back Sam Owens' 35 carries for 232 yards and one touchdown. The Maroon defense scored their team's other two touchdowns.
