SPARTANS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT...
CLEVELAND, OH - The Case Western Reserve University football team was handed their second consecutive loss today by Washington University (MO) 38-10 in a University Athletic Association game in Cleveland. Case drops to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the UAA while Washington improves to 4-4 and 2-0.
Washington (Bears), who led 24-10 at the half, held Case (Spartans) to just 18 rushes for 14 yards on the day while running the ball 58 times themselves for 183 yards. Eight Bears ran the ball led by sophomore running back A.C. Dike’s (Manassas, VA) 15 carries for 38 yards and two touchdowns. Spartan senior running back Brandon McDowell, who entered the game ranked seventh in the country in rushing (150.3 avg.), ran the ball just 12 times for seven yards.
Case senior quarterback Eli Grant (Brooklyn, NY) completed 18 of 38 passes for 158 yards (three interceptions) and one touchdown. The Spartans only other score, came on a record-breaking (UAA & team) 51-yard field goal by freshman kicker Joseph Brenner (Lititz, PA). Washington starting quarterback junior Adam Meranda (Milford, OH) completed 17 of 26 (one interception) for 219 yards and three touchdowns.
Case freshman linebacker Nick Decesare (Westlake, OH), a St. Ignatius product, led the Spartans defense with 13 total tackles (5 solo, 16 assist). Case travels to Buffalo State next Saturday for 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
