CASE FALLS IN LAST HOME GAME...
CLEVELAND, OH - Case Western Reserve University sophomore quarterback Jason Cellura (Euclid, OH), a local Villa Angela-St. Joseph grad, completed 14 of 26 passes (one interception) for 221 yards and two touchdowns as the Spartans fell at home to the University of Rochester 30-28. Cellura also had 15 rushes for 31 yards and two touchdowns.
Case (5-4, 0-3 UAA), who trailed 21-7 at the half to the Yellowjackets (4-5, 2-1 UAA), out scored Rochester 21-9 in the second half, but was still handed their third loss in four games all to University Athletic Association opponents.
Spartan senior running back Brandon McDowell, currently ranked fourth in the country (Div. III) in all-purpose yard (209 ypg.), ran the ball 25 times for 101 yards. McDowell, another VASJ product, also caught four passes for 45 yards. Sophomore wide receiver Marshaun Minter (South Euclid, OH), also a VASJ grad, led all Case receivers with four catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Spartan senior defensive back JD Patton (Columbiana, OH) had two interceptions and 7.5 tackles (3 solo, 9 assist). Case will play its final game of the year this Saturday (November 15) at the University of Chicago (12:00 p.m.).
Rochester was led by senior running back Gerard Hopkins (Rochester, NY), who had 18 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown and sophomore quarterback Aaron Molisani (Canandaigua, NY), who completed 11 of 22 passes (2 interceptions) for 128 yards and a touchdown. -end- |
