CASE IMPROVES TO 4-1...
MARYVILLE, TN - Case Western Reserve University senior running back Brandon McDowell (Cleveland, OH) ran the ball 32 times for 155 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans past Maryville College 27-17 in a non conference game in Tennessee. One of McDowell's scores was via a 70-yard punt return.
Case improves to 4-1 (0-0 University Athletic Association) on the year while Maryville falls to 2-4. They open up UAA play next Saturday in Pittsburgh against Carnegie Mellon University.
Each team scored a touchdown in both the first and second quarter and a field goal in the fourth quarter. It was in the third quarter that the Spartans won the game, outscoring Maryville 10-0 on a touchdown and field goal.
Case senior quarterback Eli Grant (Brooklyn, NY) completed 16 of 37 passes for 236 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Jason Cellura (Cleveland, OH) had five catches for 85 yards.
Defensively, the Spartans were led by senior linebacker Mark Lembach (Lakewood, OH) and sophomore linebacker Michael Collins (Cleveland, OH), who had 11 total tackles a piece.
