CASE SNAPS TWO GAME SKID...
BUFFALO, NY - Case Western Reserve University sophomore quarterback Jason Cellura (Cleveland, OH) completed 16 of 24 passes (one interception) for 192 yards and two touchdowns and also ran the ball 16 times for 64 yards as the Spartans snapped a two-game losing streak with a 23-21 victory at Buffalo State College today.
Cellura, who has played wide receiver all season for Case, stepped in for senior quarterback Eli Grant (Brooklyn, NY) who was out with an injury. Cellura played quarterback sparingly a year ago, but did play the position in high school at local Villa Angela - St. Joseph.
The Spartans (5-3, 0-2 University Athletic Association) led Buffalo State (1-7, Independent) 20-14 at the half. The two teams went scoreless in the fourth. Buffalo State ran one in from the one with 1:21 left in the third for the last score of the game.
Case senior running back Brandon McDowell (VASJ), who had just 31 carries for 68 yards and no touchdowns in his last two games, rushed the ball 35 times this afternoon in New York for 150 yards and a touchdown. He also had six receptions for 46 yards.
Defensively the Spartans were led by freshman linebacker Michael Collins (Cleveland, OH). Collins, a local Chanel product, had 11 total tackles (9 solo, 4 assist).
Case will host the University of Rochester next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The game will be the last played at Finnigan Field. -end- |
