Frequently Asked Questions
What if I cannot attend the 2008/2009 seminars?
The terms of the grant require that faculty attend a WLE seminar. The final round of seminars will be held in Fall, 2008 and Spring, 2009. See Important Dates for exact dates and times.
If faculty are traveling on seminar dates, but would like to connect to the seminar via videoconferencing, we will try to facilitate this, providing this can be accomplished without cost. Faculty who would like to participate through videoconference must make their request no later than one week prior to the scheduled seminar. We can accommodate a limited number of requests and will do so in the order that requests are received.
I attended a previous seminar but did not submit a proposal. Do I have to attend another WLE seminar?
No, you do not. You should, however, download the most recent iteration of the RFP from this website. You are welcome to attend again, if you wish.
Are faculty from schools other than the College of Arts and Sciences eligible to apply?
The WLE grant is internal to the College of Arts and Sciences. Full-time faculty holding the ranks of instructor through profesor in all disciplines in the College of Arts and Sciences may apply for funding.
I work in the sciences. Is this for me?
WLE funding is meant to facilitate international collaboration in all disciplines. WLE has funded proposals in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences to date.
Will you review my proposal prior to submission?
We are happy to discuss possibilities and resources with you. We have found it extremely productive to meet to discuss your ideas prior to your writing your proposals. This is particularly useful for faculty whose ideas are not quite formed. To discuss your ideas, contact Molly Berger. For technology resources, please contact Tom Knab. Contact information can be found through the link for "Grant Administration."
Should my proposal's budget include technology costs?
Ongoing requirements, such as ISDN connection fees, must be included in your budget. Equipment fees that make your specific proposal possible must also be included in your proposal. Emerging technology that may subsequently be used broadly in the College might be covered by the grant's funding pool for technology experimentation. Technology that is available through the College, Case ITS, or other sources without charge should be listed in the budget as "In kind." If you have questions about available technology, contact Tom Knab. |
