Faculty member and colleagues identify stem cell product that reverses nerve damage from multiple sclerosis

Arnold I. Caplan, professor of biology and director of the Skeletal Research Center, is a co-author of a study that may hasten development of a new treatment for multiple sclerosis. The study, published in the online version of Nature Neuroscience, found that hepatocyte growth factor, secreted by human adult stem cells, spurs restoration of nerves and their function in rodent models of the autoimmune disease. Psychologists find children's imaginations have increased despite less playtime

Psychology professor Sandra Russ and Jessica Dillon, a fifth-year doctoral student, have found that while children are leading busier lives and have less playtime, their imaginations have not suffered. This outcome, the opposite of what the researchers expected, was reported in the Creativity Research Journal. Read more.

 

Dittrick Center offers Saturday hours

The Dittrick Medical History Center has added Saturday summer hours beginning June 9. The museum will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays in June and July, and the first three Saturdays of August. Among its collections are rare books; artifacts and images on anatomy, endoscopy and surgery; and the Percy Skuy Collection on the History of Contraception. Admission to the museum is free.
