CWRU hosts Midwest Conference
for Undergraduate Women in Physics
 The College of Arts and Sciences hosted a conference to encourage women studying physics to stay in the field and succeed in their careers. Under the guidance of Professor and Physics Chair Kathleen Kash, a committee of Case Western Reserve undergraduate physics majors planned the event, one of six regional conferences held simultaneously. Williams contributes to book
documenting housing issues
 “‘We Refuse!’: Privatization, Housing and Human Rights,” an article by Rhonda Williams, director of the Social Justice Institute and associate professor of history, was published in Freedom Now! Struggles for the Human Right to Housing in L.A. and Beyond. Contributors to the book include artists and scholar-activists. Learn more.

Latest Antarctic expedition uncovers
hundreds of meteorites
 Ralph Harvey, associate professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences and principal investigator for the Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET), returned from his 25th trip to the continent. This latest expedition uncovered hundreds of additional meteorite specimens, but fewer than expected because of early snowfall. Read more.
Keillor selects SAGES Fellow's
poetry for public radio show
 Brad Ricca, a SAGES Fellow who teaches about comic books and biography, has been honored for his poetry. Garrison Keillor selected Ricca's poem “The Beautiful Sandwich” to be read on his public radio show The Writer’s Almanac. Ricca's first book of verse, American Mastodon, was published by Black Lawrence Press in December. Read more.
Ricca is also involved in writing the text for a permanent Superman display to be housed in the lower concourse of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport near the baggage claim area.

 Hiroyuki Fujita (GRS '98), founder and CEO of Quality Electrodynamics, was a guest of first lady Michelle Obama at the State of the Union address. Fujita started QED in 2006 while director of imaging physics at Case Western Reserve. Read more.
