American Music Masters 2011 Celebrates Aretha Franklin
 The legendary Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will be honored as part of the 16th annual American Music Masters series, a collaboration between the college and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Each year, the two institutions present workshops, lectures, exhibits and other events that shine a new light on influential artists. This year’s weeklong program celebrating Franklin’s pioneering musical contributions begins Oct. 31 and culminates with a conference and dazzling tribute concert Nov. 5. Read how you can take part.
CWRU's latest Distinguished University Professors include two from college
 Robert W. Brown, Institute Professor in the Department of Physics, and Philip L. Taylor, Perkins Professor of Physics, recently were named Di stinguished University Professors. Awarded at Fall Convocation, the designation represents the highest honor that CWRU bestows upon a member of the faculty. It is a permanent title that acknowledges full-time, tenured professors with exceptional records of teaching, scholarship and service. Read more.

Ballet's impact on fashion explored in new book
 A new book by Mary E. Davis, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Music, examines the work of ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev, the founder of Ballets Russes, whose costumes transcended the stage to become designer haute couture in Paris in the early 1900s. Professor receives Distinguished Career Contribution to Gerontology Award
 Eva Kahana, the Pierce T. and Elizabeth D. Robson Professor of Professor of Humanities in the Department of Sociology, and director of the Elderly Care Research Center, has been chosen as the 2011 recipient of the Distinguished Career Contribution to Gerontology Award by the Gerontological Society of America—the nation’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging.
