Deepak Sarma, an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies, began the South Asia Initiative with aspirations to enhance the educational and scholarly environment at CWRU. He is affiliated with a number of other university departments which is reflective of his broad interests as well as his attempt to offer a wide variety of courses in South Asian studies. Sarma has published in Indian philosophy, Hindu studies, method and theory in the study of religion, and bioethics. He has pursued ethnographic work and has produced several documentaries on Hindu rituals and practices. He is serving as a guest curator of Indian Kalighat Paintings, an exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art, which will run from May 1 until Sept. 18, 2011.
