The Children’s Rights Index (CRI)

Lynn Gannon, who co-directs this project, and I are working with Robin Patterson and Michael Flatt (Dawn Aliberti and Casey Schroeder have previously contributed) on the Children’s Rights Index (CRI). The CRI is a measure of children’s rights for approximately 190 countries. The CRI is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. We are attempting to code three separate rights for four types: civil, political, social, and participation rights. We use these types on the basis of the work of people like T.H. Marshall, Bryan Turner, Thomas Janoski, and others. We hope this endeavor is useful to other academic research as well as policy makers and non-profit organizations who work on children’s rights.
