Class of 2007
Joan Chase
Utilizing the knowledge of Dutch city-planning techniques and architectural design she gained from her trip to Amsterdam using an Experiential Learning Fellowship from the College of Arts and Sciences, Joan conducted a study of how those techniques may be used to better Cleveland's housing system and city-planning.
Jennifer Ohtola
Jennifer researched the importance of city landscapes in terms of their cultural and psychological impact on city inhabitants. She proposed a number of improvement and development projects to the directors of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.
Kristin Raj
Out of concern derived from her own personal experiences, Kristin organized an ACT tutoring program for area high school students. She has also created a report and proposal for the continuation of her program.
Sandhya Ravichandran
Sandhya coordinated a Science Fair for the Broadway Boys and Girls Club in Cleveland. She utilized the help of many other College Scholars as well as a number of other Case students. She also researched the efficacy of after-school programs and their importance to the education process.
Mike Stentz
Mike researched the outcomes of Abstinence Only Sex Education and Comprehensive Sex Education. He spoke with teachers and principals from area high schools about their programs. His project consists of a website (
http://sertohio.blogspot.com/ ) that advocates Comprehensive Sex Education for the State of Ohio and provides users with interface to contact their state Sentators and Representatives.
Vicky Sutak
Vicky looked into the prevalence, causes, and consequences of the HIV positive status of children and young adults. She created a teaching implement for instruction in grades 4 through 6 on the topic, along with a teacher's guide with statistics and information to be given to older students as well.
Matt Wholey
Matt investigated definitions, studies, and development programs centered about the problem of literacy. He then applied that knowledge he gained from research to the Cleveland Public School Systems. He wrote analyses and proposals that he will submit to Catalyst Cleveland, an independent reporting publication that deals with the Cleveland public schools.

James Carlson
Organized "Case for Music" at Thwing Center
for 2-3 high school marching bands.
Rachel Pope
Trained as a doula (birth assistant),
and organizing a public talk on the subject.
Remy Olson
Worked with the Greater Cleveland Lead Advisory Council on a survey of health providers and implementation of a quicker blood-lead level test that will improve screening rates of at-risk children. Also working with student groups to improve Case involvement in local organizations on the lead-poisoning epidemic in Cleveland.
Nathan Cross
Designed a teaching brochure on the Madagascar environment for the Cleveland Botanical Garden.
Jonathan Semivan
A series of short stories in the
science fiction genre.
Erika Lindholm
Organized a website on
volunteer possibilities for engineering students, and preparation for volunteer work
at a hospital in Tanzania.
Calvin Krishen
A research survey and educational program on the use
of pharmaceutical drugs to deal with depression among Case students.

Class of 2005
The twelve senior projects this year continued the program’s traditions of 1) permitting greater scope for creative work than usually possible in disciplinary major programs, and 2) striving to create bridges between academic learning and civic activism and service. They included Jaclyn Grentzer’s show of local Latino artists, Anna Brady’s work interviewing immigrants in the Cleveland area, Veronica Norman’s work on dilemmas of public school funding, Trevor Pour’s photographs of the Cleveland area, and Ashraf Sabe’s ongoing work with Case for Unicef.

Dorothy Chiu
Conducted a study of addiction, focusing on less well-known forms of addiction, such as video-gaming.
Lila Ibrahim
Did a research project examining the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict since the Oslo Accords.
Michelle Kim
Directed a one-day program intended to expose less-advantaged students to careers in Health Care.
Sam Korkor
Did an art project, producing a series of abstract paintings, and also studying audience responses to them

Carolyn Eggert
Did a study of math as a feminist issue, exploring barriers to advancement in mathematics for girls and young women.
Chhavy Tep
Developed a service project to help low-income people in the community to obtain access to computers.
Emily Link
Studied the efficacy of campus efforts to educate students on the dangers of drinking and drug abuse.
Louise Yeung
Studied alternative medicine, culminating in a highly successful one-day alternative medicine fair in the atrium of University Hospitals.
Marwa Sabe
Wrote a combination of ethnography and travel narrative based on her semester in Egypt.
Marcela Smid
Produced a documentary film about staff at CWRU, which was complemented by a “student-staff interaction day” she organized on campus.
Megan Melo

studied the American pharmaceutical industry.
Philip Miller
Wrote a remarkable book intended to develop philosophical thinking in small children; Miller also did an excellent job of illustrating the book himself.
Ahalya Viswanathan
Wrote a chapbook of poetry, and did a public reading.
Christina Garrett
Used and developed software to help high school students gather necessary information to learn about choices they might face after graduation.
