Author Kurt Vonnegut visiting with the College Scholars Program

THE COLLEGE SCHOLARS PROGRAM is an undergraduate community of learners. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and the moral demands of leadership, both
at Case and beyond. Students work with faculty to define their educational programs, teaching one another as well as learning from faculty.
Students apply to the program during their Freshman or Sophomore years and those admitted participate
in the program for the following two years. The
program is three credit hours per semester for two years for a total of 12 credit hours. In class, students can expect to develop communication skills, explore ethical problems, and probe the nature of leadership. They
also will have unusual opportunities to teach one
another, developing the curriculum of the program in collaboration with their classmates and the faculty. The final semester of the program is devoted to a project of the student’s own design. Seniors serve as mentors to the students in the class that follow them. Students from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to apply.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
• Learning in a community, and with a
cohort that will be together for two years.
• Close mentoring by faculty.
• More freedom to shape curriculum than
in ordinary academic programs.
• Meeting with distinguished speakers and guests, which in past years have
included Nobel Prize winners and other luminaries.
• Funding for individual research projects.
• The option to live with other program students in a special suite in House #7 in the new Village at 115 in the North Residential Village. The suite consists of single rooms, a computer/study room, a Great Room, as well as a fully-equipped kitchen.
