Once a team of RIBMS scholars is selected for the program, they will
- Take a one-credit seminar offered in the spring, introducing the
different available research projects, and background skills in
mathematical biology
- Form research teams and decide together which project or projects
to pursue
- Work full time during the summer on the chosen research project,
supported by a summer research stipend, mentored by the chosen faculty
team
- Continue work in the following year (if applicable, as a senior
capstone)
- Participate in the biweekly Biomathematics Forum, a discussion
group for work in progress
- Write up the results of the research project and prepare them for
public presentation either at Case (e.g., the SOURCE Undergraduate
Symposium and Poster Session or the Senior Capstone Fair) or at a
scientific meeting.
RIBMS Scholars will be supported in several ways, including the following.
- All RIBMS Scholars will be provided with the use of a laptop computer
equipped with the latest biological modeling software available either
as open source or through Case site licensing.
- During the summer portion of their research project, RIBMS
Scholars will receive a stipend of $3600.
- RIBMS Scholars will also have the use of a newly renovated Biology
Penthouse (top floor of Millis) affectionately known as the RIBMS
Clubhouse.
- To support their research activities, RIBMS Scholars will be given access
to the Biology Department's multinode parallel XServe BioCluster
machine, located near the RIBMS Clubhouse.
