DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

Financial Aid, Housing and Travel Support Information

Financial Aid

The Department can provide some assistance for most accepted students. Additional financial support also may be provided through research assistantships and Pediatric Psychology and Mental Retardation/Experimental Psychology training grants. Students need only to submit the standard graduate application to be considered for these funds.

For clinical students not connected to a training grant, the Department provides a full tuition waiver the first four years. It also facilitates, on an individualized basis, students obtaining a paid clinical experience and research assistantships. Information concerning loan and job assistance also may be obtained by contacting the Office of Financial Aid.

Most students accepted into the Mental Retardation Research Program and the Pediatric Psychology are fully supported by National Research Service Awards, which include 12-month stipends plus payment of tuition and health insurance. In addition, there usually are provisions for travel expenses to conventions and for some research costs. Award acceptance obligates the student to a pay-back agreement which may be satisfied by employment in research and teaching for a specified time. Further details are available upon request.

Housing

The university does not have on-campus units available for graduate students. Contact the Office of Housing and Residence Life at 216-368-3780 or e-mail housing@case.edu for information about off-campus options nearby.

Travel Support for Graduate Students

The Department supports student travel when they are presenting a paper or are coauthor of a paper. Current award levels are as follows:

    1.  For students presenting a paper or poster, the award is up to $500.

                     2.  For students who are coauthors of a paper or poster but are not the presenter,
the award is up to $350.

Students may apply for more than one award each year but the total may not exceed $500.  Travel support may also be available from the graduate school.
