Math 308 homework
Something useful to notice (again):
Most of the material for
a given homework assignment is covered in class by the Monday before
it's due, if not even earlier. And if you don't wait until Wednesday
night (or later) to get started then you have a lot more time to ask
questions about the assignment.
Something else useful to notice:
Your textbook has answers to the odd-numbered exercises that don't ask
for definitions or proofs. The homework mostly consists of
even-numbered exercises, but there are often very similar odd-numbered
exercises around them.
Homework assignments
All assignments are due in class on the given date.
- Due Jan. 23.
- Read sections 0 and 1 of the textbook. (Of course you should
actually read every section of the book as it's covered in
class. But especially these early sections contain some
background material which will be assumed known and not all
covered in lecture, so be sure to read them right away.)
- Section 0: 12, 32, 36.
- Section 1: 18, 22, 36, 38.
Note: just like last semester, you need to explain all your
answers even when the problem doesn't explicitly ask for a proof.
- Due Jan. 30.
- Section 2: 2, 4, 10, 24.
- Section 3: 2, 4, 12, 30.
- Due Feb. 6.
- Section 4: 10, 28, 32, 34 (you can use the result of #33), 41.
- Section 5: 16, 34, 39, 40, 42, 51.
- Due Feb. 13.
- Section 6: 10, 16, 18, 22, 44, 46, 55.

- Section 11: 6, 20, 24, 36, 39, 46, 47.
- Due March 6. (Corrected: the wrong list was originally posted.)
- Read section 12 (we won't cover it in class).
- Section 12: 24, 26, 28, 30, 38, 40.

- Due March 27.
- Section 16: 2, 8, 9, 13.
- Section 17: 2, 6, 8. I think there is a typo on #6: I think it
should say each color may be used on from zero to all
eight corners.
- Section 18: 15, 23, 40, 44, 55.
- Due April 3.
- Section 19: 9, 17, 23, 29.

actually units), 15, 17.
