INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF THE UNIVERSITY IN SOCIETY

University History Project

Output

The results of the project are anticipated to be both tangible and intangible, reaching a significant share of the University's constituents. Among these products will be:

  • Updated history of CWRU, to be published in 2006-07, focusing on the years since 1967 but revisiting earlier periods to illustrate the relationship of the University and its predecessor institutions to larger trends and forces in society.

  • Interactive web site, continuously updated, plus CD/DVD versions (available in 2006-07) of an interactive presentation of the University's updated history, with extensive visuals and links to relevant documents elsewhere.

  • Undergraduate and other seminars on the history of the University and on the interactions between the University and larger forces in society. The undergraduate seminars are being offered as part of the SAGES Program beginning in fall 2004. Others are scheduled as opportunities arise.

  • Presentations to on-campus and off-campus groups (alumni, etc.), including informal reports to institutional leadership about insights gained during the research and interviewing phase of the project.

  • Database on CWRU history and related phenomena, prepared in collaboration with University Archives and suitable for continued development by successor.
